Samsung has some big news for its popular app Samsung Health Monitor, which allows users to track their health data.
As of late December, version 1.4.1 of the app will only work on Android 12 and above, meaning devices running Android 11 and older will no longer be supported.
When I first heard this news, I thought the app would no longer be available on older devices. But that’s not exactly the case.
“Unsupported” doesn’t mean the app will completely stop working. If you don’t have a phone running Android 12 or above, you won’t be able to get new Samsung Health updates. However, you can still use your existing app on older versions.
Samsung recommends that users update their devices to Android 12 or later for full functionality.
Why Are Older Versions No Longer Updated?
I can’t help but wonder: Okay, Android 11 is a pretty old version. It was released in September 2020 and is over 4 years old. However, this application currently works very well. It receives data from the Galaxy Watch, processes it and presents it to you. Will not being able to get the new update really be a deficiency?
It is clear that a feature that is in Android 12 but not in older versions will be activated with the new update. However, it would be better if the manufacturer stated more clearly why this change was made without going into too much technical detail. It would be easier for users to understand what the new update changes.
